 What are Pastel Colours?

Colours can highly influence our mood and also decipher your sentiments. Let’s take a journey into the world of pastel colours.

Pastel colours/shades are a part of the light color range, which have a high amount of white colour and low concentration of pure colours in them. These colours can be made by adding more of white to the dark (pure) colours. Generally, pure colours are colors that display an identical form on some element of apparent colour. In short, pastel colours are pure colours + white.

If you are an art lover, than you can easily identify a “Monet” painting; it does not have hues of black/gray to it. Adding black or gray converts into a shade of that colour and it is no longer a pastel shade. You will find people selling light gray colour as pastel shade but it isn’t, it is all part of media marketing.

Pastels are popular!

Even though there is an absence of vibrancy, pastel colours look soothing and graceful. They are opposite to the usual overpowering shades of pure colours. Pastel colours bring peace to eyes and are almost 90% calmer, compared to other colours.

What are pastel colours used for?

Their delicate evenness and fine consistency are suitable for mixing and coating it with lots of other colours, to give some artistic impressions. Thin outlines can be done over the boundaries, but most people prefer using soft pencil or solid pastel colours for initial and specific work.
